Suzuki teased a new SUV for the European market set to debut on November 25, hinting at the new generation of the S-Cross. Now, several pictures of the car have leaked online courtesy of Suzuki Garage. The uncovered cars seem to be production units caught during transport, fully revealing the design of the new model. The new S-Cross is a family-oriented SUV slotting above the slightly smaller Vitara in Suzuki’s range. The current model was updated in 2019 with the addition of a mild hybrid system, however this generation actually dated back to 2013 with a controversial facelift in 2017. Thus, a clean-sheet design was needed in order for Suzuki to better compete in the crowded SUV market.
As we can see from the revealing pictures,
the new S-Cross is a departure from its predecessor, incorporating a more
angular styling. At the front, the LED headlights are inspired by the
India-bound XL6, while the grille has grown larger, reaching lower in the
bumper. Moreover, there’s a skid plate and plastic cladding communicating the
adventurous nature of the car. The rising window line on the profile has an
evolutionary shape, but the angular wheel arches and the huge taillights
sticking out of the rear end make it clear that this is an all-new model.
The upcoming S-Cross will likely share its
updated underpinnings with the next-generation Vitara. Under the bonnet, we
expect to see the turbocharged 1.4-liter Boosterjet engine with a 48-volt
mild-hybrid system which in the current generation produces 127 hp and 235 Nm. Despite its “soft” appearance, the SUV will come
with Suzuki’s AllGrip Select 4-wheel Drive system for better off-road
performane. It will also feature an array of ADAS systems following the example
of the rest of Suzuki’s range in Europe.
The official premiere of the S-Cross is
scheduled for November 25, with an expected market launch in Europe shortly
after that date. Like its predecessor, it will slot between the B-SUV and C-SUV
segments, combining compact dimensions with a roomy cabin focused on
practicality. In Suzuki’s range, it will bridge the gap between the
closely-related Vitara and the Across which is essentially a rebadged Toyota
RAV4.
