Toyota has published a mysterious teaser showing part of a new SUV. The cryptic announcement says “something big is coming to the Toyota SUV lineup”, which we interpret it to be a new-generation Sequoia based on the brand new Tundra pickup. The teaser only shows the rear quarter of the upcoming SUV, including the sculpted rear fender, a chrome-finished windowline, an integrated roof spoiler, and horizontally mounted LED tailights reminiscent of the Mitsubishi Outlander. The surfacing and the fender add-ons look similar to the new Tundra pickup truck that debuted last September, although the wheelbase appears to be shorter judging from the position of the rear door shutlines, but that could just be the angle of the photo.
Toyota, knowing that many of us would try
to brighten up the teaser image, cheekily inserted some hidden text on the
lower left corner that reads: “All New Debut: The forest, and its trees, almost
in view”. We have to admit that it is clever on their part to hide that for the
photoshoppers who are always trying to brighten things up in shadowy teasers.
Since Sequoia is a genus of redwood coniferous trees, the wording all but
confirms the new model.
