Meet the Jetour Dasheng, a crossover SUV co-designed by Chinese automaker Chery and electronic corporation Huawei to appeal to the younger audiences. The utility vehicle has frameless doors, two-tier headlights and pop-out door handles among other modern gimmicks. At 4.5 meters long, it is comparable to the Volkswagen Tiguan in terms of size and rides on 20-inch wheels.
The contribution of Huawei, a worldwide
known manufacturer of smartphones and other digital and electronic equipment,
cannot be underestimated here. The company has designed an infotainment system
for the car, a heads-up display with Augmented Reality features, an NFC-based
door unlocking system, and an SAE Level 3 self-driving suite. The latter
implies that, under certain conditions, drivers are allowed to take their hands
off the steering wheel for little periods of time.
Sales will begin in the third quarter of
the year, but Chery promises to reveal more details about the Jetour Dasheng
later this spring. From the powertrain point of view, the newcomer will be
similar to other Chery vehicles. Later on, the four-year-old Jetour brand plans
to introduce a few new models in China, including a body-on-frame SUV called
the T-X and a futuristic semi-autonomous crossover dubbed the X-1.
