Since its debut in China and South America a few years ago, the compact-sized Chevy Tracker has only been available with a three-cylinder engine. This changes now with the introduction of a new four-cylinder version called the RS.
The new engine was developed by SAIC Group
and gets 184 PS along with 250 Nm of torque out
of its 1.5 liters of displacement. For comparison, the old three-pot was
available in 125 PS and 165 PS variants in
China. Customers in Brazil were even more handicapped with a choice between 116
PS and 133 PS. The new engine is only
available with a CVT and front-wheel drive. It takes the Tracker from zero to
100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, which is 1.1s faster than the best old spec
could do with a CVT.
On the outside, the updated crossover SUV
sports a new radiator grille, 17-inch wheels, and black trim details/badges all
around. The interior is also said to be sportier than before, but Chevrolet
hasn’t posted any photos yet.
Sales in China will start next month.
