Chinese car manufacturer GAC has expanded its offer with a new sporty-looking crossover named Trumpchi Emkoo, which offers a trendier alternative to the more conservative GS lineup. In essence, the Emkoo is a completely redesigned GS4 model. Both are based on the GPMA unitized platform and are 4.5 meters long. The Emkoo lacks AWD, but has multi-link suspension on its rear axle.
The standard equipment list includes a
sealed panoramic roof, 19-inch wheels and power-assisted door handles that sit
flush with the doors and pop out when the owner approaches the car. Inside, the
handles are also unusual in that you have to pull them upwards to open.
The front panel lacks buttons: all
controls are accessible via an infotainment display powered by the Qualcomm
Snapdragon 8155 chipset and Adigo 5.0 operating system. HUD and ambient lighting
are also included, and – unusually enough – there is a Yamaha-branded audio
system on board.
Customers will be able to choose from
three power options, although the specifics remain to be announced. There is a
1.5-liter turbo mated to a seven-speed DCT with pre-selection, a 2.0-liter
turbo working with an 8-speed Aisin automatic, and a hybrid specification. The
latter uses a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine along with a Toyota CVT
featuring manual first gear.
Sales will start in the second half of the
year.
