Smart Automobile is celebrating its quarter-century anniversary with a limited edition of its biggest and freshest model on the market – the #3 coupe-SUV. Dubbed the Starry Sky Commemorative Edition, you can order one for yourself. Prices in Europe will start from € 46,990, which corresponds to US$ 51,500.
Blacked-out badges, 19-inch wheels and red
accents inside and out are the most immediately noticeable modifications
compared to stock. The steering wheel is squared off at the bottom, the roof is
panoramic, the interior is lit with a 64-color ambient lighting, and there is
an anniversary badge on the dash. Other than that, it is a completely standard
Smart #3 that still relies on a 272-PS electric motor to
drive its rear wheels. It sprints 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and has
580 km of range.
Smart used to be known as a car company
co-founded between Mercedes-Benz and Swiss watchmaker Swatch. Nowadays, however,
the brand belongs to Geely, which controls 50% of its stock. Since its
acquisition in 2019, Geely has been solely responsible for all its engineering
and manufacturing processes. Visual design is the only part still handled by
the German company.
The Smart #3 made its debut in Europe
early last fall. Customers could choose between a single-motor/RWD modification
and a dual-motor/AWD spec rated at 428 PS. Both variants rely
on the same 66-kWh battery for propulsion. The range amounts to 455 km for the RWD version and 415 km for the AWD.
