Aston Martin Vanquish S
It’s hard to believe that the
second-generation Aston Martin Vanquish first debuted way back in 2012. Since
that time, the Gaydon-based carmaker has churned out many variations of the
two-door grand tourer, including a drop-top Volante and many other special
edition versions.
With the new DB11 already out in the
open, it has been rumoured that the Vanquish is due for a full model change
soon. However, before that happens, Aston Martin looks set to introduce a more
potent version of the current model, possibly called the Vanquish S. This is
similar to what was offered with the first-generation Vanquish, which came with
aero upgrades and a bump in horsepower.
The prototypes you see here was captured
by our spy photographers near the Nurburgring recently, and it appears that the
Vanquish S will be available for both the coupe and Volante models. On both
test mules, the only noticeable difference up front is the wider lower intake
compared to the standard car.
Everything else looks pretty much
unchanged until we reach the rear, where a significantly more aggressive
diffuser has been added. Joining it are a set of quad-exhaust tips, which
replace the dual-tip setup on the regular Vanquish.
Under the hood, expect a few tweaks to
the Vanquish’s AM29 5.9 litre V12 engine to bring power output closer to the
600 hp mark. Left untouched, the AM29 in the Vanquish coupe and Volante
generates 568 hp and 630 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels via an
eight-speed Touchtronic 3 automatic gearbox.
