New Volkswagen Teramont
Volkswagen Teramont is the brand's local model for the Chinese
market. There are a few minor styling tweaks differentiating
the two SUVs, but the most important detail is that the latter is made in the
People's Republic by the Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture, while the former is
put together in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
According to China's Auto Sina, the seven-seater SUV
will be available with a 2.0-liter TFSI engine in two outputs - 186 HP and 320
Nm of torque and 220 HP and 350 Nm of torque, in
addition to a German-made 2.5-liter V6. All units are available with a 7-speed
DCT transmission, which is paired to a 4Motion AWD system.
Positioned between the Tiguan L and the Touareg, the
new Volkswagen Teramont sits at 5,039 mm long, 1,989 mm wide and 1,773 mm tall, with a 2,980 mm wheelbase. The
crossover will take on the Toyota Highlander and Ford Edge in China where
prices are said to range from 300,000 yuan (equal to US$ 44,000) to 450,000 yuan
(US$ 66,000).
Full details will be released next month during the
2016 Guangzhou Auto Show, where the new SUV will make its debut.
