Tesla Model S (update)
Elon Musk announced that the
already blistering fast P100D variant of the Model S will feature a “Ludicrous
Easter egg” that will unlock the vehicles’ full performance, making the P90D
obsolete. According to Electrek, Tesla will phase out the P90D
and make the “ludicrous” upgrade only available with P-branded cars.
But that’s not the only significant change dedicated
to the full-size, all-electric sedan, as Tesla has quietly added an all-glass
roof option for the Model S, available for US$ 1,500 – while the panoramic sunroof
option, which lets you install a roof rack or satellite radio, is still priced
at US$ 2,000.
The add-on removes the crossbar over the vehicle’s
B-pillars, offering an airy, and unobstructed experience. Regarding a possible
greenhouse effect, Tesla claims their tinted glass blocks 98 percent of UV rays
and 81 percent of heat, making it a viable proposition even in a warm climate.
Moreover, the car maker will most likely offer a sunshade option, at some
point.
It looks like Tesla’s recently-created, in-house
glass tech group is hard at work. The upcoming Tesla
Model 3 is expected to feature a similar option.
