ZEV LRC-X Electric Scooter
The ZEV LRC has been in
production for several years now, and the LRC-X is here to expand the range
through a high-performance electric version. The exterior loos almost identical
to the standard model, but the internals are what it makes it so special.
For starters, the battery pack
capacity has been increased to 36 cells of 100 Ah each, offering 28.5 percent
more capacity and thus range. The electric motor is also rated at 40 kW, which
should push the scooter at speeds of around 185 km/h. Still, max
speed is limited at around 153 km/h)due to the tires available.
The company explains that it
could have increased the wheel diameter to benefit from higher speed rated
tires, but that meant increasing the seat heigh, which is not what customers
want.
Anyway, top speed isn’t the
biggest LRC-X advantage. It’s the range that makes this scooter special. With 289 km at 88.5 km/h and 177 km at 112.6 km/h on a full battery, the LRC-X is the world’s longest-range electric
bike at highway speeds that anyone can buy under US$ 30,000 at the moment.
ZEV says the electric motor has been upgraded and can put out
a maximum of 400 Nm in power mode. And because of that, the scooter
will be offered with a performance controller pack so customers can set it for
race mode and hit the drag strip.
The new LRC-X will retail for US$ 15,950 in America and will probably cross the pond next week for the European
market. However, here it will be somewhat restricted to comply with the rules
governing the 125 cc scooters.
