Piaggio Group has launched the Piaggio Vespa RED
edition in India at INR 87,009, ex-showroom, Mumbai. Vespa has teamed up with
(RED) to fight against AIDS in India. (RED) is an organisation founded by U2
band frontman Bono, and activist Bobby Shriver to help fight AIDS.
Till date,
(RED) has generated more than USD 475 million for the Global Fund to fight AIDS
and support HIV/AIDS grants. The Vespa RED edition features exclusive red body
colour, 12 inch red alloy wheels and red art leather seats. Bollywood
celebrity, Farhan Akhtar presented and owned the first Vespa RED in Mumbai
today. The scooter is available for sale at Vespa dealerships across the
country.
On every purchase of the Vespa RED, it will trigger
a US$ 50 donation to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in India. The
company claims each scooter sold can help provide more than 165 days of HIV
medication; which can help save a mother’s life and prevent her from passing
the virus to her unborn baby.
Under the skin of the Vespa RED edition is the Vespa
VXL 125. The 125cc 3-valve single cylinder mill makes 10.06 PS at 7,500 rpm and
10.6 Nm at 6,000 rpm. The engine pairs with a CVT gearbox. The scooter uses a
single arm front suspension, and a rear dual-effect hydraulic shock absorber.
Brakes include 200 mm front disc and a 140 mm rear drum.
