The G4 SsangYong Rexton was spied testing in Nashik
by Team-BHP reader Mayur Shinde recently. The Mahindra Rexton for India, also
referred to as Mahindra XUV700 by some media outlets, was showcased at the 2018
Auto Expo in February with Mahindra badging. However, the official name is yet
to be confirmed.
The Mahindra Rexton will look different slightly
different from the G4 SsangYong Rexton seen on test in the spy shot here. As
showcased at Auto Expo 2018, the Mahindra Rexton will have signature design
cues. It will feature a two-tone gloss black/chrome upper grille with a chrome
applique above it. The unique upper grille will consist of thick vertical
chrome slats, gloss black thin vertical slats and gloss black frame.
The Mahindra Rexton will employ a 2.2-litre diesel
engine good for 178 bhp and 420 Nm of torque. It pairs with a
Mercedes-Benz-sourced 7-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system for its
version. The G4 SsangYong Rexton is also available with a cheaper, 6-speed
manual transmission as well. It is unknown whether the Mahindra-badged version
will include this option for a lower entry-pricing or not.
Noteworthy features of the Mahindra Rexton will
include HID headlamps with LED DRL, 18-inch alloy wheels, electric sunroof, dual-zone
automatic climate control, cognac brown leather upholstery, ventilated seats,
8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with GPS navigation, electric parking
brake, and 9 airbags.
Mahindra owned SsangYong will start exporting the
Rexton to India in CKD kits in Q3 2018 (July-September 2018). Mahindra will
assemble the car at the Chakan plant. The market launch will take place this
festive season.
