Toyota calls the all-new 2019 Corolla 5-door its
most stylish and technologically-advanced small car. It’s scheduled to go on
sale this summer in the U.S., with pricing yet to be announced. Among its most
important standard features is the Entune 3.0 system with Apple CarPlay and
Amazon Alexa connectivity, a revised-sport tuned suspension and the automaker’s
TNGA platform. The new Corolla also marks the first North American application
of Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.
Compared to the old 2018 Corolla 5-door, the new
model has a larger wheelbase (by 3.8 cm), is both wider and
shorter by 1.5 cm, and less tall, by 1 cm. Both the
SE and XSE grades feature LED headlights and taillights, a chrome rear diffuser
and alloy wheels ranging from 16-inches to 18-inches in diameter. It’s the XSE
though that ups the ante with 18-inch wheels, LED fog lights, chrome front
grille surround and the available Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS), which you
can only get on XSE CVT models.
Meanwhile, color options include the new-for-2019
Blue Flame, Blizzard Pearl, Silver Metallic, Midnight Black, Galactic Aqua
Mica, Scarlet and Oxide Bronze. Inside, SE models get standard features such as
single-zone automatic climate control, leather shift knob, paddle shifters,
electronic parking brake, three-door SmartKey system, automatic up/down windows
and two front USB outlets. Opt for the XSE and you’ll also enjoy dual-zone
climate control, combo leather seats, heated front seats and an eight-way power
driver’s seat. You also get the Enture 3.0 Audio Plus system (optional on SE
CVT), which adds HD Radio and Weather/Traffic info, SiriusXM with Cache Radio
and connected services, while the JBL 8-speaker 800-watt system with Clari-Fi
is optional on XSE CVT models.
Powering the 2019 Corolla hatchback is a 2.0-liter
inline four-cylinder unit, said to be smaller, lighter and quieter than the old
1.8-liter four-pot found on its predecessor. Available transmissions include a
six-speed manual or an all-new Dynamic-Shift CVT with Sport Mode and paddle
shifters.
As for available active safety systems, there’s
Pre-Collision with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise
Control, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering
Assist, Automatic High Beam, Lane Tracing Assist and Road Sign Assist.
