The new
Mercedes-AMG 53 models are already available to order in Germany and will
arrive at dealers in August. The lineup includes the E-Class Coupe, E-Class
Cabriolet and new CLS, all of which share the same powertrain, a twin-turbo
3.0-liter inline-six with a starter-alternator that powers a 48V electrical
system.
Mercedes-AMG says that all three models have 435 PS and 520 Nm of torque from the internal combustion
lump, along with 22 PS and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque from
the EQ unit. Naught to 100 km/h takes 4.4sec, 4.4sec and 4.5sec,
respectively, and top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h on all
of them.
The most affordable of the three is the E53 4Matic+
Coupe. It starts from € 81,592.35 (US$ 95,254) and is followed by the CLS 53
4Matic+, which can be had from € 84,430.50 (US$ 98,361). The AMG E53 4Matic+
Cabriolet has a starting price of € 87,066.35 (US$ 101,431), and there’s an Edition
1 version of the CLS 53, which can be ordered from € 97,282.50 (US$ 113,333).
On the styling front, the AMG 53 models have a
distinctive look, with the twin-blade radiator grille in silver chrome,
specific side panels, restyled rear apron, boot lid spoiler available in carbon
fiber as an option and round tailpipes.
Inside, all of them benefit from exclusive trim, AMG
steering wheel in Nappa leather, optional digital Widescreen Cockpit and wood
inserts. The new Mercedes-AMG CLS53 4Matic+ Edition 1 adds Copper Art interior
design, black Nappa leather seats with copper-colored contrast stitching,
various elements in carbon fiber and Edition lettering. It also gets ambient
lighting with 64 colors, an IWC analogue clock and the Memory and Mirror
packages.
