Renault teased the reveal of a new crossover coupe
model. This is allegedly the new Renault Captur Coupe, which wants
to make the apparently popular bodystyle more accessible to customers that
can’t or won’t spend the price asked by models like the BMW X4 or the GLC
Coupe.
It will be the first SUV coupe built for the masses,
with the test car revealing its sloping roofline and more powerful shoulder
lines. The full body camouflage does a good job at hiding the rest of the
design. Thankfully the aforementioned teaser revealed that the Captur Coupe
will feature Renault’s latest design cues, such as the LED C-shaped headlights
we’ve seen in the current Megane.
The engine lineup is expected to include the latest
1.3-liter TCe petrol engine that was co-developed with Daimler and is also
featured in the new A-Class. The powerplant will be offered in various states
of tune, just like in the Scenic and Grand Scenic models, meaning 115, 140 and
160PS and will be paired either with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed
dual-clutch transmission.
Reports suggest that some markets might get the
upcoming Captur Coupe with a Dacia badge as well. Renault has already confirmed
that production will take place at its Moscow factory, at least initially. Stay
tuned, as Renault is planning to reveal the new Captur Coupe in
near-production concept form on August 29 at the Moscow International Motor
Show.
