Volkswagen has launched a new V6 petrol engine in the Touareg. Already on sale in the United Kingdom, it’s priced from £ 52,635 in the SEL spec, while buyers can also opt for the better-equipped R-Line and R-Line Tech trim levels.

The new 3.0-liter V6 TSI has a peak output of 340 PS, delivered between 5,300 and 6,400 rpm, and 450 Nm of torque produced between 1,340 and 5,300 rpm. Power is directed to the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

The V6-powered petrol version is capable of hitting 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds from a standstill, and has a 250 km/h top speed. That’s 1 second slower than the new 4.0-liter V8 TDI-powered Touareg, whose maximum speed is also electronically capped to 250 km/h.

On average, the Touareg V6 TSI returns 31.7 mpg UK (8.9 lt/100 km / 26.4 mpg US) and its CO2 emissions stand at 203 g/km. Despite being 50 kg lighter than the diesel-powered models, it has an identical towing capability of 3,500 kg.

In the UK, the Touareg range kicks off from £ 49,095 for the 231 PS 3.0-liter V6 TDI SEL, while the more powerful 286 PS version adds a £ 2,600 premium. As for the new V6 TSI, the top-of-the-line R-Line Tech trim commands a £ 59,235 asking price.
