As with the Chinese model, America’s 2020 XT5 gains a new mesh pattern for the grille that brings it in line with Cadillac’s newest cars such as the XT6 and XT4 crossovers. Mind you, only the grille’s “contents” change while its shape and size remain the same.

The only other updates we are able to spot at the front include the slightly larger lower grille and the addition of a subtle chin spoiler. The rest of the front fascia appears unchanged, as do the headlights. However, while their shape stays the same, the headlamps feature a redesigned inner structure with an LED lighting element replacing the current model’s round projector.

At the rear, the changes are even harder to detect, though the LED taillights get a more contemporary signature and the rear bumper is expected to get a very subtle update at the lower end. Well, at least the design of the alloy wheels seems new. In China, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will be available in two flavors: Premium Luxury and Sport. The prototype in these photos wears the identification marks of the former grade, as it features bright body accents — except on the grille, for some reason.

Moving inside, we can expect XT6-inspired goodies such as a new steering wheel, rotary controls for the infotainment system, and possibly the Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. As for the driving force of the 2020 XT5, the big news is the addition of an all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, joining the existing 3.6-liter V6 unit. Codenamed LSY, the turbo-four offers 237 hp and 350 Nm of torque on the Chinese-spec 2020 XT5.
