Peugeot’s getting ready to enter a new era with a
sports sedan meant to put some heat on the Audi S4, Mercedes-AMG C43 and others
– and it has already previewed such a car with the 508 Sport Engineered Concept
at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The final production version, on the other hand, is expected in 2020,
according to AutomobileMagazine, who claims to know some very juicy details
about the powertrain.
By combining the 200 PS 1.6-liter
petrol engine with a 110 PS front-mounted electric motor and
another electric motor, rated at 200 PS, mounted on the rear
axle, the PHEV assembly will reportedly deliver a total output of 360 PS. The car will get electric all-wheel drive and is thought to use
an 8-speed automatic transmission. Performance is unknown, but the
508 Sport Engineered Concept was able to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.3
seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h. The
11.8 kWh battery provided an electric range of 50 km.
Due to the added weight of the battery and electric
motors, the 508 Sport (name unconfirmed) will get some suspension revisions and
perhaps other technical upgrades compared to the rest of the 508 family.
Moreover, the sportier look and 20-inch alloy wheels will make it instantly
recognizable.
The sporty derivative of the new-gen 508 should
arrive in the four-door version of the car at first, but if everything goes as
planned, then the SW (estate) will follow it.
