The Ford Puma subcompact SUV has been spotted
several times over the last six months but it has always been very heavily
camouflaged. This latest sighting makes no exception, although there are quite a
few differences compared to the last time the Puma was spotted testing near the
Arctic Circle in Scandinavia.
For example, this test prototype spotted at the
Nürburgring Nordschleife seems to wear the final production headlights — though
they are partially covered with tape. Despite that, we can identify the
teardrop shape and the fact that they appear to feature LEDs. Another change compared to
previous sightings is the different exhaust setup. The crossover
features two round tailpipes instead of one.
While we can’t know for sure, we can’t rule that out
given that the vehicle also features larger wheels in a sporty design and a
honeycomb pattern on the grille. And let’s not forget this is the first time
the Puma is spotted at the Nürburgring.
The regular Ford Puma SUV will launch by the end of
this year as a 2020 model with Fiesta underpinnings. Consequently, the ST
version will pack Fiesta ST mechanicals, including a 1.5-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder
making 200 PS. The
Ford Puma is expected to have its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in
September.
