The Tata Altroz has been snapped sans camouflage on
the Indian roads for the first time. New spy shots posted by Team-BHP forum
member Karan561 show the hatchback undergoing a TVC shoot. Its launch is likely
to take place by July.
The Tata Altroz seen in the spy shots carries the
same metallic gold paint as the Tata Altroz Geneva Edition that was unveiled at
the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The design, obviously, is the same. This is the
second model after the Tata Harrier to be designed as per the IMPACT Design 2.0
philosophy. The B-segment hatchback measures 3,988 mm in length, 1,754 mm in
width and 1,505 mm in height. It has a 2,501 mm wheelbase. It is the first
model underpinned by the indigenously developed Advanced Modular Platform,
which is also known as Alfa-Arc.
The Tata Altroz will be available with the Tata
Tiago's 1.2L N/A petrol engine that produces 85 PS and 114 Nm of torque, a
newly developed 1.2L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 102 PS and 140 Nm
of torque and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel engine. The latter will be the Tata
Nexon's engine, but with the maximum power detuned to 90 hp (91.25 PS). The
maximum torque should also be lower. A 5-speed manual transmission is a given,
while a dual-clutch automatic unit is in the rumour mill. There was speak of an
optional mild-hybrid system, but there haven't been any recent developments on
that matter.
Key features of the Tata Altroz will include
projector headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, semi-digital instrument cluster and
a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android. The Tata Altroz will compete with
likes of Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 in India. It could be priced from around
INR 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom). A pure electric variant will likely follow in 2021.
