Carscoops spy
photographers have snapped prototypes of the Megane plug-in hybrid. Set to be based on the facelifted
2020 Megane, the plug-in hybrid variant has a familiar design, but its
distinguished by a new charging port on the driver’s side rear fender. One of
the prototypes has also been equipped extended fender flares and this suggests
the model could have a wider rear track.
Additional changes are limited, but the facelifted
Megane will have modified bumpers, a revised grille and restyled lighting
units. We can also expect an updated interior which could have to a digital
instrument cluster and a new infotainment system.
Renault has been tight-lipped about the model, but
the company has already confirmed the plug-in hybrid variant will be launched
as part of the Megane’s 2020 “product refresh.” The facelifted model is
expected to be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show this fall, but it remains
unclear if the plug-in hybrid variant will also be unveiled at the same time.
Regardless of when and where the plug-in hybrid is
introduced, Renault has already confirmed it will have an e-Tech powertrain
that has been billed as “innovative” and developed entirely in-house. The
company hasn’t said much it, but previous reports have suggested it could
consist of a turbocharged engine, an electric motor or motors and a small
lithium-ion battery pack. That’s pretty vague, but it’s believed engineers are
targeting an electric-only range of approximately 48 km.
