The Seat Ateca is due for its mid-life facelift and
the company has brought out camouflaged test cars on public roads. The facelift will bring a redesigned front grille,
along with new-style bumpers that feature the daytime-running LED lights most
likely mounted on the air intakes under the headlights. The design differences
between standard and sportier trim levels will most likely be more obvious this
time.
Both the headlights and the taillights will also get
a new lighting signature as well, along with the usual new wheel designs and
new color options. The interior of the test cars seems largely the same with the current
Ateca, with the changes expected to be subtle and limited to a redesigned
steering wheel and switchgear, as well as an updated infotainment system. One
would expect that the company would give the Ateca their latest-style dashboard
with the floating infotainment display as used on the Tarraco but apparently
that’s not the case.
Bigger changes should arrive in the powertrain
department; with Seat almost ready to reveal the new Leon hatchback, it’s only
natural to expect that the facelifted Ateca will adopt most of its engine
options, since the two are based on basically the same architecture. That will
probably include VW Group’s upcoming 48-volt hybrid and plug-in hybrid
versions.
Sales of the 2020 Seat Ateca are expected to start
in the first half of 2020, with the car itself probably heading to Frankfurt
Motor Show this September for its big reveal.
