Yamaha has updated its entry-level supersports
offering Yamaha R3 with new colours for 2020. Changes in the 2020 R3 are only
cosmetic and not mechanical. The new colour schemes for MY2020 bring the Yamaha R3 closer to the
recently unveiled 2020 Yamaha R1. The Icon Blue colour scheme now loses the
blacks and gains a new grey shade in the tail section. The Midnight Black
colour scheme is now all-black with even the decals bearing a darker shade. The
upside-down fork is now black-coloured instead of golden.
The powerplant of the 2020 Yamaha R3 is the same 321
cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled mill. Coupled to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine
produces 42 PS of power and 29.6 Nm of torque. The bike tips the scales at 170
kg and has a ground clearance of 160 mm. The 14-litre fuel tank makes the R3 a
great choice for touring. Suspension duties are handled by upside-down fork
sourced from KYB and monocross shock at the rear.
Anchoring the 2020 Yamaha R3 is a 298 mm
floating-mount disc brake up front and a 220 mm disc at the rear. Both the
European and US version of 2020 R3 are shod with Dunlop Sportmax tyres shod
over cast-aluminium wheels. The Indian version, though, may get Metzelers.
Yamaha India is expected to launch the updated R3 in
India soon. We believe that the upcoming motorcycle will get the same new
colour options offered in Europe and the US now. The Japanese manufacturer is
expected to increase localisation levels for the Yamaha R3 in India to bring
costs to a competitive level.
The old Yamaha R3 was priced in India at INR 3.51
lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Yamaha R3 will compete with the star
performer of the segment Kawasaki Ninja 300 which is priced at INR 2.98 lakhs
(ex-showroom, Delhi).
