According to reports from German media, all these
changes foretell a major shift for the next-generation T7 Multivan, which is
said to migrate to the MQB platform instead of continuing with the aging 7H/7J
commercial vehicle architecture. Therefore, it will become a true passenger
car-derived minivan.
Using the spy shots as a basis, Russian website
Kolesa‘s resident Photoshop artist imagined what the production T7 Multivan
will look like when it debuts sometime next year, possibly as a 2021 model. As
you can see, the people carrier will adopt sleeker headlights and taillights,
in line with VW’s passenger car lineup, as well as a sportier stance — if we’re
allowed to use this word in relation to a minivan.
At the front, the T7 Multivan looks bolder than the
current model thanks to a massive lower grille and an upper grille that fits
flush with the “angrier” headlights. Seen from the side, an additional window
appears between the windshield and the front door in order to improve
visibility. As with the VW Multivan 6.1, a belt line will link the headlights
with the taillights, which will be horizontal and will adopt a modern LED
signature.
Also visible at the lower end of the doors is a
pronounced concave surface which designers likely added to visually break the
massive sheetmetal. The switch to the MQB architecture will allow VW to offer
the T7 Multivan with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, as well as the
latest safety and connectivity tech.
