Lamborghini has released additional images of the
Urus ST-X race car that will start competing next year at the Super Trofeo 2020
World Finals in Misano Adriatico in Italy.
First presented in November last year as a concept,
the Urus ST-X comes from Lamborghini Squadra Corse and is easy to pick from the
‘regular’ road-going SUV. For example, it is painted in the same Verde Mantis
paint scheme as various Huracan racers and will sport center-lock wheels.
Lamborghini has also equipped the racer with an
FIA-approved steel roll cage, fire suppression system, and an FT3 fuel tank.
Extensive work was also done to ensure the Urus ST-X is much lighter than the
road car with the initial show car weighing 1,649 kg, or roughly 25
per cent less.
Power is provided by the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter
V8 as the road car, with 641 HP and 850 Nm of torque. Performance
figures haven’t been announced YET, but the production model hits 100
km/h in just 3.6 seconds and reaches a 305 km/h top speed.
Lamborghini is said to be developing a hardcore
version of the street-legal Urus using some of the technologies of the ST-X.
The company’s research and development boss, Maurizio Reggiani, suggested
earlier this year that the road-legal Urus could use similar weight-saving
techniques as the racer. There’s also a chance that Lamborghini will also
increase its V8’s output, although that’s mere speculation for now.
