Multiple sources have reported that Ford
unveiled an all-new, affordable pickup truck model to select dealerships at a
private event in Tucson, Arizona in February. The pricing is rumored to lie in
sub-20,000 USD area.
The car, which is provisionally known only
as the ‘Ford 758’, should enter retail late next year. The manufacturer
allegedly intends to sell at least 10,000 units annually, assembling them at
its Mexico factory.
The new truck is reportedly based on the
latest Ford Focus platform and comes to replace both the Fiesta and the Focus.
It will offer a choice between the familiar 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine and
its superior 2.0-liter counterpart. An eight-speed automatic transmission with
a hydraulic torque converter will send the momentum to the wheels, the sources
claim.
The production name remains unclear at
this time, with the sources providing two different candidates: ‘Courier’ and
‘Ranchero’.
