Yet another mysterious Ferrari prototype has been spied testing at Fiorano and according to reports, it is an early mule for the LaFerrari’s eventual successor. This mule is wearing the bodywork of a LaFerrari Aperta and lacks the camouflage of another prototype snapped by spy photographers recently. There are a number of features of the bodywork that are different to the LaFerrari, however.
For example, the front bumper is unique as
is the roof and the rear window/engine cover. Stickers affixed to the exterior
of the mule confirm that it features some form of electrified powertrain. In
fact, it seems the car was being tested in an all-electric driving mode as it
was emitting virtually no sound. Either that or the engineer driving the mule
was simply being very gentle on the throttle.
The presence of tailpipes on this mule, as
well as others, confirms that it will feature an internal combustion engine of
some kind and won’t be all-electric. In all likelihood, the car continues to
rock the Italian marque’s flagship naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 but it’s
not improbable that Ferrari has instead decided to use a smaller-capacity
twin-turbocharged V8.
Regardless of what powers the new
hypercar, it can be expected to pump out more than the 986 hp of the LaFerrari.
It would also be nice if Ferrari is able to put its technical know-how to good
use and make the car even lighter than its predecessor.
