The Porsche 963 made an online debut simultaneously with the live premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK. The company will be coming back to WEC with it following a five-year of hiatus. The prototype racecar comes based on the regulation-approved LMP2 chassis co-designed with Multimatic from Canada and will compete in the new LMDh category.

The powertrain utilizes the 4.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of the Porsche 918 Spyder along with electrical components from Advanced Engineering, Bosch, Williams and Xtrac – the list is the same for all LMDh participants. The regulations cap the power output at 680 PS.

According to the design team, Porsche 956 and 962 racers from the 1980s were the main design inspirations for the exterior. Porsche Penske Motorsport will be driving the prototype in the next racing season. A total of four vehicles will be made for the team and another handful for client teams.

Aside from World Endurance Championship, the car will take part in the IMSA racing series in the USA. The first start is expected to take place at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the USA in January 2023.
